We're Blogging Now!

9/11/2008
Today is the 7th anniversary of one of the most horrific attacks in U.S. history. I've been watching the events replay all morning on television and it still gives me chills to hear some of the survival stories. Where was I when this happened? That's one of those moments when everyone knows where they were. Sort of like knowing where you were when Challenger exploded or when JFK was assasinated. I was drinking coffee with my best friend in her living room when the twin towers fell. We usually yakked incessantly but this day we both sat silently, watching in shock as events unfolded.
I was very glad then that the Kittyhawk contract had ended the month before. I had previously worked at an airport handling the mail coming in and going out on small jets. After this, airport security would change dramatically. On a small scale, I knew just how UN-secure airports could be. It wasn't too difficult to follow someone through an unmanned gate. Yes we were supposed to challenge anyone without a badge but DID people? Not always.
I'm of the opinion here that we are still too relaxed in this country. People in other countries HATE us simply for being American and many Americans just don't "get it". They think that we should "talk peacefully" with these enemies when they want nothing of our words and instead want us dead. The rift in our two societies is just too deep for simple talk. The mystic in me insists that this is ying/yang and dark/light at work. Oil and water can't mix and unfortunately there are conflicting opinions in varying societies that don't mix either. Why else would the Big Guy Upstairs put OCEANS between us? Silly humanity though, we have to leap that rift. Just like man had to get booted outta the garden of eden, unsatisfied with what we have, we tend to flounce boundaries and look for more. Well, the greedy among us do. Greed's a huge factor here and most American's can't even see our bounty as greed. We have to have the newest gadget, buy our kids the newest fashions, have the biggest house, the fastest car, the best of everything while millions worldwide live with dirt floors and their kids play with sticks and rocks. No wonder people resent us for flouting such opulence against their own meager existence.
So many giant sized topics to cover and I just got here, I'm going to stop now. I ache for those who lost loved ones 7 years ago today. I support those who are taking measures to protect us from future attacks on our country's security. It's so easy to forget who did this to us and why. It's so important to remember that freedom isn't free.
Thanks for checking me out. I'll have more to say as this election (grins) draws nearer.
